National Merit Scholarship Semifinalist Faadil Mohammed in a spotlight

2020欧洲杯积分Congratulations to Osbourn Park High School Senior Faadil Mohammed for being named one of the PWCS semifinalists in the 2020 National Merit ® Scholarship Program!

Faadil entered the 2020 National Merit Scholarship Program by taking the 2018 SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT®), which serves as an initial screening. By being one of the highest-scoring entrants in the state, Faadil has been recognized as a semifinalist; semifinalists make up less than one percent of all U.S. high school seniors.

2020欧洲杯积分The National Merit Scholarships Corporation (NMSC) announced approximately 16,000 semifinalists in the 65th National Merit Scholarship Program during the second week of September. NMSC offers three types of National Merit Scholarships. The finalists will compete for one of 2,500 National Merit ® $2,500 Scholarships that are awarded on a state-representational basis. About 1,000 corporate-sponsored scholarship awards will be provided by more than 200 corporations and business organizations for finalists who meet their specified criteria, and another 4,100 college-sponsored scholarships will be provided by nearly 180 colleges and universities.

When asked about his academic success and becoming a semifinalist, Faadil credited the support of his teachers and the School Division. Faadil said, “I'm lucky to live in one of the most academically competitive regions of the country. I would not have been able to accomplish anything remotely close to this without the support of my teachers and classmates in matching the rigor the curriculum demands of us. My parents have also been instrumental in any and all of my success as a student; they have pushed me to do better both in the classroom and out of it. Without the work ethic my parents instilled in me, I would go nowhere.”

2020欧洲杯积分Faadil is vice president of the National Honor Society, treasurer of the Biotechnology Club, and enjoys working with local elections. Faadil plans to attend a four-year university after graduation to study political science and pursue a career with the government.

The staff and administration are #PWCSProud of Faadil and all of our PWCS semifinalists. Look for all of our National Merit® Scholarship Semifinalist features throughout the fall.
